Congress passed a symbolic resolution on Tuesday to condemn socialism — a move that saw eight Democrats cross the aisle to back the GOP on the measure.
The vote, which has no actual effect on public policy, was swiftly mocked by observers on social media.
“Voting to condemn an economic system that doesn’t exist in our country, to protect the one which we live under that exploits the working class to benefit the obscenely wealthy,” wrote Melanie D’Arrigo, executive director of Campaign for New York Health. “This was Congress’ priority as 60% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing and healthcare. Embarrassing.”
Congress torched
Weird, I don’t see a video of it burning?
Here are the 8 Democrats who voted in favor of the resolution:
Kathy Castor (FL)
Henry Cuellar (TX)
Don Davis (NC)
Jared Golden (ME)
Vicente Gonzalez Jr. (TX)
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA)
Darren Soto (FL)
Gabe Vasquez (NM)Fucking Marie Glusenkamp Perez smh. She’s in a difficult district, but there’s no excuse for some of her votes while in office here.
I swear she’s in every “Democrat crossed the aisle” post. I can’t even write to her because I’m not in her district, even though I had her on my ballot the year she got in.
She’s better than a Republican in that spot in that she votes with her party sometimes instead of never. It’s hard though because I think some of her votes have really betrayed those that voted for her as well.
Cuellar almost lost his primary to an actual progressive — in Texas! This is why it’s important to vote in your local primaries.
In fact, he was far behind Jessica Cisneros until Pelosi, Clyburn, and other DNC leadership bigwigs flew in to campaign for him.
He also illegally took foreign money for his campaigns. He had a few peons plea guilty over it.
I honestly wish out of state influences weren’t allowed to assist in state level races, same for local. If they do interfere they should be tazed on their crotch and then dragged to a shooting range for a live fire exercise, from president to county officials they should all be subject.
Forget out od state. He took money from Azerbaijan.
Oh so what your saying is we should get a member of the Armenian Diaspora to “play” with him gotcha.
“Almost” only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
Almost as in “was losing soundly until Pelosi, Clyburn, and other DNC leadership bigwigs flew in from other states to campaign for him”.
If not for their blatant abuse of influence interference specifically to retain the last anti choice racist Dem left in Congress, we’d have had the excellent Jessica Cisneros in stead, no doubt about it.
My point is that essentially ALL elections these days have blatant abuse. So saying “well if it wasn’t for the blatant abuse…” is pointless because it’s pretty much guaranteed to be present. It doesn’t really matter how close or popular someone gets because the powers that be have their thumb on the scale.
Not really. If someone wins with 51% of the vote, they normally look to the other side for policy. If they win with 90% of the vote they don’t care about the other side.
Jared Golden isn’t a Democrat, he’s a good ole boy that ran a conservative campaign in a red district and continues to act accordingly.
WA surprises me. From out in the sticks maybe?
FL, TX, no surprise there.
The closer you get to Idaho the more republican the state gets🤢
The 3rd district is in SW Washington state, just across the river from Portland Oregon. Quite a ways to Idaho.
Unless there is a single primary still open I sincerely don’t give a fuck.
I HATE Socialism!
-Republicans on Welfare!
Socialism like public schools and your local fire departments, roads paid for by tax money instead of tolls. Etc etc.
Don’t worry, the most extremist of conservatives think those are evil, too. Well, at least public schools (and the post office).
The dipshit libertarian wing of conservatism don’t want public roads or fire departments, as well.
Don’t forget the most valuable data center in town, the public library.
Oh, right. I still remember coming into work and some guy was all in a froth over the notion that people are using the Internet, at the library, and their usage was not being tracked. This, at the time when you could still wardrive and find an open Wifi with ease, and he was well aware of this fact, but pointing that out did not quell his quivering rage over this non-issue.
I tried asking more questions, but they seemed to be upset at the notion that “terrorists” could use the library to research a terrorist plot and it wouldn’t be tracked (by W’s admin that is). Mixed in was the concern that teens and the homeless could be using it to watch porn.
It seems he was listening to something on hate radio on the way in and I suspect this kind of rage bait is meant to put the idea into their heads that libraries are cesspools and need to be defunded. I think the more recent rage bait about “drag queen story hour” is another bit of rage bait planted for the same exact reason.
I remember one thing he seemed to be fixated on, as well - people getting “free movies”. Why don’t they just rent movies?
Funniest bit of this conversation, to me, was me asking - “well, do you even use the library? Have you been to any of the local branches? I highly recommend you check it out.” - their answer involved massive indignation at the very notion of them using a library, followed by: “we all have Amazon, why do we even need public libraries?” Well, case closed, I guess.
It’s interesting, with those people, where even the faintest possibility that something positive could maybe be misused is enough to gut the whole thing, but you show imperically how capitalism is used for evil fare more often than for good and they’re chill with that.
3M and DuPont could poison a whole town, cover it up, and then get no real punishment, but if they even THINK about their porn-hungry, homeless strawman that’s enough to burn down their local library. Conservatives are deeply unserious people who cause deeply serious damage.
Oh, yeah, I remember talking to this guy about the corporate death penalty and the idea of a city or state exercising that right on a wayward corporation horrified him. It didn’t seem to matter what they did; they should still be permitted to conduct business in any jurisdiction, no matter what the law is or the public sentiment, because “merica” (that was almost literally the reasoning, FFS).
But this guy was a total simp for corporations at nearly every turn. The idea of the Founders’ original plans for intellectual property he thought was just ridiculous ( at the time, the concern was Mickey Mouse falling into public domain, as it should. This was in the mid-00s. ) and he thought was some Communist plot. 🤣 I’d love to know what he thinks about Steamboat Willie now in the public domain along with many other things now.
Bet he was a huge fan of corporate subsidies, especially when the business was experiencing the consequences of management failure and the reasoning was essentially that they were holding their employees’ well being hostage.
My friends dad is like that. We had a whole conversation/argument one time over a corporations right to basically do whatever it wanted because they had the position of power/ownership. The energy there has been chill since then, but my friend also just moved out into a house, so it’ll be less of an issue.
It was a declaration of loyalty to the robber barons. Remember every one of the names of those who voted for this. They are not on our side.
But they are more on our side than a Republican so still vote for them in the upcoming generals.
Anybody for sale will only appear to be on your side when it doesn’t matter, Finite Banjo.
HO-LEE SHIT. Fuckin’ torched?!?!? That’s a whole new level. I’ll bet that they’ll see the error of their ways now!
They burned down the whole building over this?
We treat this like a stupid joke, but they will be putting us in camps for socialism soon.
Which, in this case, means anything that isn’t strictly oligarchy.

Oh my god, torched? If getting slammed didn’t show then, I’m sure this’ll work.
torched is a new one… put on the pile…
torched
slammed
hit-back
shamed
blasted
blew up
crushed
the lot meaning fuck-and-all. An article with this in the title is not worth the LED’s illuminating it
Clapped
I wonder what’s next. Fried? Obliterated? Unmade?
Facing calls
You really torched the people who wrote that headline!
Those Dems should take a long walk off a short pier
Lets just toss them off the end of it ourselves. Long walks take too long.
Unfortunately the primaries are over so we want those Dems to win in November.
maybe you do, I sure dont. Why the fuck would you want them to win?
Republicans are always worse, without exception.
This is all too true. Every damn time, the Republican candidate is worse. This is NOT the year to abstain from voting and it’s NOT the year for protest voting against a Dem candidate. Get the GOP shit stains out of the carpet before we try to renovate the Democratic Party. There will be time for that once the country is restabilized.
There was time this year for a protest vote, but that was back in the primaries.
But if you dare say that Democrats don’t fight for our interests, you’ll be called a Russian bot that’s suppressing the vote.

Do Democrats fight for our interests? No. But they don’t fight against our interests as fervently as Republicans, so until we have ranked choice voting or something they’re still the best choice on the ballot.
That’s why every congress person against voting reform is against the people and against making things better. The ones who pretend to not know are lying.
Thats still true, yes. Some of these 8 are runnung in the General and every single one is better than a Republican, so vote blue.

The electoral process has already been captured by fascists. We aren’t getting our of this with an election. I’m still going to be voting, but it’s not going to be the “blue wave” everyone is desperate for. I’m putting my effort into building people power instead and a united front of the working class.
In the most ideal conditions, Dems would take a slight majority in the house and a near even split in the Senate. It’ll likely be be a bunch of performative screaming and stalling tactics, without being able to really defy Trump’s agenda. In fact, the corpocrats may cave to the GOP and break rank, thus furthering Trumps agenda.
This could just further alienate the Dem voting base and in 2028 split the vote (or just causing people to sit out), handing another victory to fascism.
Yes, exactly. That’s why we need to be organizing counter power to the state, so we can supplant it with a broad coalition of the working class as they recede from their duty to support us.

What the actual fuck are you talking about? At what point did I say any of that?
Oh look, it’s the dumb guy with the stupid opinions, lol.
Jill Stein is not a Russian asset
It’s okay guys, they were swiftly mocked on social media for it!
Election time: Smaller government!
In office: Let’s waste our time with inane bullshit that accomplishes nothing!
Think of the salaries, healthcare, and so on for all of the reps, their aides, capital police, janitors… it’s millions of dollars out the window wasted for them to bloviate yet another day. Good job.
What makes it so very absurd? Every single one of them benefits from what they would call socialism. Minimum salaries, guaranteed vacation time, the best healthcare on Earth, and on and on and on, all things that they have voted against.
The problem is bOtH of our parties are much too socialist for Amazon and too little socialist for the vast majority of the workforce.
are we finally done with “slammed” and have moved on to “torched”?
“pitchforked” will be fun for a day
Still waiting for disemboweled.
They’re lucky they weren’t eviscerated
