So much regulation can sadly be boiled down to the idea “Contempt of Business Model.” Because once that business is entrenched and can afford lobbyists, now it’s time to lobby anything other than their business model as illegal.
“Maya S. Trojan. My estrogen? Get it, get it? … Fuck you shut up then, I think your jokes are stupid too!”
I weave back and forth between silly goose and solarpunk socialist.
I’m just one big ball of fucked up and anxious and that’s OK.

I mean, I think you have reason to trust SSDs more anyway. They’re just physically designed for more wear and tear than SD cards are, even if I’ve never destroyed an SD card myself I’m aware of their lack of resilience compared to SSDs.
And yeah, I always dropped the extra money for Samsung Pro SD cards, maybe that’s part of it, too.

So close to something like this, eh? I had no idea Gigabyte ever even made mini PCs.

I’ve been using Rapsberry Pi’s for almost a decade now and I have yet to burn out a single SD card on them. But maybe I don’t really put them under the same strain others do.
To an extent it’s understandable. TOOL fans basically ruined TOOL for me, the fanbase is just fucking insufferable, but that doesn’t mean the band themselves make bad music or something. I personally think it just means for whatever reason it appeals to people who are desperate to find meaning in music, and so things that have obvious surface level “meaning” become things that are easy for that subset of fans to latch onto. So especially for classic rock a lot of the interpretation of meaning has already been done so you’re not having to puzzle it out the way you do an entirely new piece of music and that baseline “meaning” is appealing to some people.

It’s a reference to this.
Of all the places I expected this copypasta, it wasn’t in a comic strip referencing They Live.

I’m one of those odd ducks who never cared all that much for Pink Floyd. I can hear the talent, but I found the music somewhat tedious.
Due to not caring for them much, I’ve run across people who actively hate them, and I heard this joke once:
Person A: Hey, did you hear about how they’re setting all those copies of Dark Side of the Moon on fire in the middle east?
Person B: Oh no! Is it a religious protest or something?
Person A: No, it’s just a shitty album.

This seems like a pretty good breakdown.

Reminds me of when a friend of mine rented the upper-half of a tuxedo, some tighty whities, and some big baggy boxer short underwear over the tighty whities and went as “That Bad Dream Where You Aren’t Wearing Pants.” It was so well executed.

In a world with replicators, bespoke real cooked food is probably considered an extremely fun and rewarding hobby.

To be fair, maybe in a post scarcity space faring society that land is abundant on Earth as most humans live elsewhere now, allowing the Earth to heal ecologically. Perhaps he only “owns” it insofar as his position as a starship Captain for the Federation allows him to have this space to himself because no one else would use it. Perhaps the “servants” actually live in large nearby houses and this is just what they wanted to do with their lives and how they wanted to live and since they take care of all the properties anyway, why not upkeep the small portion of the property that a Captain actually lives in.
I dunno, just spitballing. Probably wrong on Earth being less populated somehow. I’m not queen of star trek trivia or anything.

Yes, exactly, building parallel systems that actually cater to the needs of the local populace. Interconnecting those systems via federation sounds key to making it work!

It’s a little bit funny to see people talking about the benefits of centralization on a website that was built to be part of a larger decentralized network. As if we’re not here because of the problems with control and censorship in centralization. Reddit has a history of silencing leftist voices, yet those voices are more “free” to speak here on the Fediverse.
The entire point of the original structure of the internet was to build resilient communication networks for the military so if one node went down, a new path could be routed around the broken node.
Centralization absolutely leads to fascism because it gives all the controls to a handful of people who aren’t responsive to democracy.
Our representatives do not represent our interests because they are so far removed from us. We honestly need far more representatives representing far fewer people (like maybe a few hundred per representative) because then a rep has to be on a first name basis with their constituents and understand them because there are so few they represent. Either that or we need to bite the bullet and go direct-democracy and just have senators and house representatives just be figureheads who help write bills, with citizens having the final vote on each bill.

So they don’t need as much cooling, and will produce less waste heat due to the temperature coefficient of resistance.
And honestly in areas with colder year-round climates, the increase in ambient temps from running locally might actually reduce heating bills because it’s technically doing double duty of doing a job and heating the place.

D’oh! I knew I was forgetting something!

They are desperately trying to stave off the crash until Democrats have a majority so it can be blamed on the Democrats.

OK I went to the store and bought some queso dip… Now what?
I mean, it’s also the take of someone with a smidgen of education who isn’t deeply impressed by the philosophy or ideas that Maynard Keenan put forth in his lyrics. It doesn’t mean they’re bad, but it does mean they’re somewhat simplistic and not all that interesting, especially as you get older. So people who spend an inordinate amount of time praising it and acting like Maynard is like the coolest person alive for first year philosophy takes just seem like they’re overrating it to me. I know that makes me a bit of an elitist, but I mean, I don’t really care. I think stanning over any kind of celebrity whether it’s an artist or a movie star or movie director or fashion designer or whatever is foolish, and leads to a lot of unhealthy behaviors in our society. It’s a behavior that I can tie to actual negative social consequences, such as continuing to support an artist after it’s clear they are terrible (Chris Brown, for example, still has fans) which can lead groups of fans banning together and attacking innocents (Taylor Swift’s online army famously won’t stand for any criticism of her whatsoever without the critique being labeled “misogynist” by the fans). It can lead to genuine victims being dogpiled and abused by legions of fans. It’s just a behavior that I think leads to these negative outcomes when people put so much emphasis on a piece of art and who made it.
