Daiso had both alkaline and traditional carbon-zinc batteries in this size. I chose the latter because it’s for a 1960s device and I think that was the default battery chemistry in the era, plus modern alkaline batteries seem very prone to leaking when left alone for 10 years.
“Yes, I’d like two C batteries please.”
“Then look at them, stupid.”
Was honestly surprised they still sell them. Got a nice boom box a few months back, still need to fix the cassette players but the radio works fine.
I got 6 rechargable D cells for a flashlight that broke shortly after. Now I have no use for them, I just top them up yearly.
1 rechargeable cost as much as the 8 disposables I needed and I also have nothing else that uses them.
My trash cans use D cells. I don’t have a charger that fits so I go old school. It is happily taking garbage 15 years later with just one or two battery changes.
Edit: a word
I bought a 10-pak 5 years ago.
Still have 8.Don’t use many (disposable) battery devices anymore, but in my anecdotal experience, alkaline leaks much less than carbon-zinc.
My Canon thermal typewriter TypeStar 220 uses D cells. And I still use that machine… very often. I do remove those cells for long-term storage, though.
They sell (on Amazon) adapters that take AA batteries. Got a pack of like 8 for $10. Now I just need to have AA batteries + the adapters for the rare occasion that I need any D batteries.
this might be the best instance ever
