Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What phrases of wisdom have really stuck with you?English
1·3 days agoI recall the illustration: it was crayon or colored pencil faces of kids (like cartoon style or what your world find in a children’s book) that outlined the quote. One face was happy while the other’s looked… Mad or sad maybe.

5·3 days agoThis one really struck a chord with me when I was young. There used to be an illustration on the wall of the hallway which led toward the cafeteria in elementary school. It read similar, “Do the right thing, even if everyone around you isnt.”
It got me through a lot and saved my ass a few times.

Technology@lemmy.world•Hope you like RCS, because Google Messages plans to remove this easy way to turn it offEnglish
1·6 days agoThey don’t support RCS. Plus, SMS is transmitted unencrypted. If you care about privacy of conversations then SMS is not it. You either: Give in (what I did) and use Google Messages with RCS or use something like Signal and convince everyone your regularly message to use it too.

2·7 days agoSleep mask for sure. And not a cheap ass flemsy satin-like ones you get with the dom/sub pack at your nearest adult store!
I recommend the Manta Sleep ones. Used the smaller one for 4 years before the Velcro finally gave in. Immediately bought the regular ones and kept using the eye cups from my old ones. It was a godsend working third shift.
Haven’t tried the heated or cooled cups so ymmv.
Lies! It uses electricity!

1·14 days agoDon’t forget, this happens in corporate jobs too. The only ones that can climb the ladder are the ones who do so via stepping on other employees and faking it till they make it.
JerryRigEverything’s favorite past time.
Yes. GMT is UTC (meaning GMT is +0 and synchronized with UTC), therefore if you have to work out what time it is in other time zones, you use UTC. Your application shows the time in your time zone (unless otherwise specified). Responses will also be shown in your time zone.

131·1 month agoCan’t review code if you don’t know how to. Are we meant to throw the source into AI and go, “hey is this safe”? While it may work, the time and effort sometimes isn’t. It’s literally being stuck between a rock and a hard place, so-to-speak. And before anyone says, “well, you should learn code”, I hear you. All due respect to those that can, I’m not taking the time because I don’t have time. I’m surviving from high gas prices, high grocery prices, higher bills (with for-profit companies reporting their best ever profits YOY), and keeping afloat. “Ain’t nobody got time fo dat.”

Nearly any decent PoE camera. I prefer Ubiquiti and Reolink. With PoE cameras you can control (with a firewall) what gets egress to the outside network. Block egress for every camera. Can even go one step further and block them internally but allow only certain ports needed, like 554 for RTSP and 80/443 for management.

2·2 months agoI’m not shilling for LMG, but something like Floatplane would make sense. You pay per creator for their extra content and ad free viewing and the cut goes in favor to the creator. Of course Floatplane has to also make money. They’re not in it to serve you ads or use your data to make money. If that took off I could easily see people paying 3-5 creators monthly to watch their videos ad free with extras on one platform.

No shit I did this for my partners grandparent. All they needed was the browser to do shit like Facebook and paying bills. Slapped Linux Mint on their near dinosaur laptop with a Windows theme and they were none the wiser.
