  • Bad people distort narratives regardless of the actions of others… No matter what she did, my first wife was always the victim. DARVO is a thing, identify it and ignore it. These people looting a market for resources after a long night of rioting does not disqualify their complaints. Their complaints must be evaluated and addressed independently of their reaction to the original violation against them.

  • During riots, people often loot markets for food and water. Which makes perfect sense: they aren’t carrying a lot of resources and a night of high adrenaline rioting will exhaust and dehydrate people.

The only real solution is to provide access to cheap or free food and water throughout and after, but who is going to do that?

The stores themselves could lock up the pricey stuff and offer water access and cheapo food stuff, ask for payment, but not lock their doors or make a huff if people don’t pay. But they’d have to plan for it, and not every business is going to be riot savey.

Besides, most biz are covered by insurance, so not really a big deal.

  • I have no problem with being able to verbally ask a computer to do basic useful things, it’s a far more advanced PC-human inferface than the computer mouse…

But beyond that, meh. I get how it can be used by science to solve complex issues or analyze large datasets, and that’s cool, but I don’t need anything on my PC more calable than an aide that can set a timer for me, or thereabouts.

If it can’t already do something with way fewer errors than people, than it shouldn’t be doing that yet.

If it can, then we might as well put it to work.

We didn’t build stone tools because our hands were good enough, or bronze tools because stone was good enough,…

  • Actually, a lot of that sounds pretty practical.

The barrels would work as slow burn barrels for long term heat on cold nights, the bike parts could be a source of income (part bikes > full bikes to sell), more than 2 pans seems too many, but he may go through them fast if used over an open fire (depending on the type of pan), for millennia campers kept fires buring over night or for days to make cooking later easier (yes it’s risky in some situations, but practical in general), and covering his car would ensure it looked cleaner and required lower maintenance (both have a lot of perks for a homeless person trying to live cheaply and fly under the radar). I’m not sure about the tires, but keeping cans and some other materials can def provide a source of income.

Nothing is ever really disposable, except the abusive people in your life. We could all benefit from less of those. Everything else is reusable or recyclable. Just listing this guys possessions without explanations for them makes them easy to dismiss as trash, but that isn’t necessarily even close to honest. He likely had some actual waste on site from food prep or completed projects, but by no means was all his stuff trash.
