Afaik thats also Linux Torvalds stance. It’s a tool, and it cannot be held responsible, that’s always on you

Honestly, I think it can be helpful for beginners if used in moderation.
I’m a complete beginner with programming, and yesterday was working on my home assistant to control both my AC and Radiator simultaneously. But I couldn’t get it to work, with the special climate entity always crashing. After i think 2 hours, I asked Gemini what was wrong, and it pointed out that I didn’t have a fallback value and that when starting up, the values were invalid, and caused the entity to crash. After I added a fallback, it worked.
I think AI can be useful if you treat it like asking someone more experienced like a teacher. It will make mistakes, but if you’re stuck it might be able to help you. I’m still writing my code myself, but I use Gemini as a last resort when I’ve spend over an hour on a problem and can’t figure it out myself.
Not that that applies to Linus, but I thought I’d also add some context from a beginner

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an often hated movie/show/game that you experienced, that made you go "I get the hate, but I don't hate it myself"? And how much did you tolerate it?
1·4 days agoWell my fiance and I started dating with 19 and 20, respectively, but we still talked about our future early on

1·5 days agoI’ve been with my fiance for over 4 years now, and we’ve kinda always been very open about how we want our life to be and where it might lead us

Work Reform@lemmy.world•The bosses don't pay their workers. Workers pay their bosses.
2·10 days agoI’m not talking about salaried management. Of course you need those positions. I’m talking about the owner/shareholders, who do no/next to no work, and reap the profits of the company.

2·11 days agoThis isn’t about small companies with a handful of people, it’s about the ones with thousands of employees. And being a freelancer basically means not having anyone beneath you.
The whole point is about the massive amount of surplus value the employer takes off the employee. In small companies, due to a lack of machines, experience, connections in the industry and other things, there needs to be more work done for the same profit. So the employers will have to work themselves to rival other major corporations.
You shouldn’t see these type of things as a critique on the person, but on the system. You have to exploit your workers, otherwise you won’t be able to compete with the ones that do.
If you are a fair boss, and you give your employees the actual value of their work, you don’t have any to invest, and will eventually fall behind on technology. So the more someone exploits others, the more they’re able to invest in tech, therefore increasing their workers productivity, and the amount of money they can extract.
The owner of a major company has to be a major exploiter, otherwise they wouldn’t be where they are.
That’s why the problem is the system, not the person
That’s the same in German, drives me nuts
With how many native speakers still mess up your and you’re, and especially “should of” instead of should’ve, I would actually wager theyre a native speaker

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Its crazy to me that no one is saying "if rhe AI is doing all the jobs maybe we can spend more time with the family and children we supposedly love."
5·13 days agoBut they’d be unemployed, and therefore wouldn’t have money for shit. So nice, you can starve to death with your family

4·14 days agoMy guy, if the AI did all the jobs, what are the people supposed to do?
I mean, it’d be amazing for a socialist society, but under capitalism it straight up sucks

Honestly I’m leaning more and more towards advocating for people to use AI responsibly instead of outright rejecting it.
Yes the environmental impact is insane, but I feel like that’s mostly because they keep pushing it to do more and more. But I think we’re well past the sweet spot of what work AI should take off our shoulders. Remove too much and you end up with Meat Proxies.
Tho that only applies to things where only the result matters, like code. Pragmatic stuff, that’s there to serve a specific purpose.
Art is the exact opposite. The process matters, the struggles, the successes, the setbacks. It’s a thing of passion, and that can never be truly replaced by a machine.
