Was curious of “Acula” related to apples or garlic, cuz if so that’s an S tier pun. Alas, it does not, but Dr. Acula does show up in film and music a few times.

650 million. Not billionaire, but still -usually- guillotine territory. The more I’m reading about Dolly, the more I’m seeing that she did infact make herself a net positive to humanity, hence my apology. If you had the misfortune of seeing my posts when the news of her death was breaking, I kinda just shrugged it off as another rich hoarder biting the dust, but I was very much in the wrong.
Different thread, but the Lemmy community is still small enough that common posters become familiar, so if you’re reading this thread odds are good you read the other one, too.
Anyway, what I posted was shitty, and I wanted to own up to that - you all deserve better.
Huh. Her only charity that I was aware of was the kids books, which, while super cool, amounts to crumbs from someone with that much wealth. I had her filed with other ‘philanthropists’ whose contributions add up to a small fraction of what they should be paying anyway via taxes, but our laws are shit, so they don’t.
Doing charity and not making a scene about it though, huge respect! I wonder what else she was involved in.
I’m thinking my initial reaction was way too crass - apologies for acting shitty.

You could slap that same comment on nearly any article about Trump since his entry into politics. We live in a fucking circus.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Should've banned it all the way through high school, but it's better than most.
3·4 days agoThe issue is the people who do just good enough on the exams to squeak by with the minimum. Exams also don’t do a great job of testing critical thinking, which is what AI use really destroys.
It’s like the old “book smart but no common sense” situation, but in this case even the book smart side is taking a hit because students will just study AI excrement without verifying that it’s accurate. And the common sense side isn’t just undeveloped, it’s actively attacked.
AI is making people stupid.
Is that like non-functional doomed, or like we can’t use them for sport any more so we opt to kill them doomed? I’ve heard the spiel about horses breaking a leg before, but I’m not actually sure what it’s supposed to imply.
To be clear, othopedics is not my area of expertise,
edit - ortho specialty chimed in. Sounds like it’s responsible for much less than I understood - see the next comment in the chain.
so grain of salt, but to my understanding, it’s basically the radius bone, but of the leg. Aim your toes forward in the normal anatomical position; now rotate your entire foot to the left or right. That’s your fibula working. Without it, very limited rotation; but otherwise you can still walk and function mostly normally, just a bit impaired.I have no idea how ‘chunk missing in the middle’ plays into that. Guessing you’d still have some rotation, but without a secure anchor point, it wouldn’t be great.
Um… so looking at the tibia, that is 100% an intramedullary tibial nail:

…which means their tibia was broken as fuck, and there’s a pretty hefty chance the fibula was also broken as fuck in that same injury.
My guess is the missing segment was fragmented to the point of not being saveable, and removed during the same operation the IM nail was placed.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the OP is bullshit - maybe they had some new resident docs, or nurses, or techs or w/e who hadn’t seen that before and it was a genuine wtf moment for them. I love it when new staff get that look!

29·4 days agoThe number of new nurses / doctors who auto-piloted their way through school is fucking staggering.
There’re no checks, they just take ChatGPT’s vomit at face value.
Then they start working, and they’re just bad.
AI needs to be banned from education, period. Think with your own brain.
The only thing inaccurate about this meme is the dude’s expression of discontent.
Republicans, especially maga, would enthusiastically let Trump shit in their mouth if it meant a ‘librul’ would have to smell it.
They are happy to fall on the sword so long as it causes harm to some out-group. They love that shit.
Fair enough.
Eh, Brute - that’s your cue.
There was a pretty extensive study conducted around the 1930s on how to best engage with a Nazi. Punching isn’t bad per se, but it requires you to be in dangerously close range; and they tend to get back up following the punch, so it’s a very temporary solution. High risk, low reward.
Best practice is bullets and bombs.
Stupid is to Idiocracy as malice is to real life.
I mean, there’s plenty of stupid to go around in this hellhole we’ve created, but that isn’t what’s driving humanity into the dirt. Our issue is that humans are fucking evil, and we’d crank up our neighbor’s suffering for a quick buck.
Idiocracy is a utopia compared to the future we’re spiraling into.
