As disappointing as it is to see it end, 5 seasons is a decent run, and I’d rather it end before they “jump the shark” or just fizzle out.

Agreed, even as a huge fan of LD I could personally sense it being more difficult to write more stories for our lowly stalwarts of Starfleet in season 4. Better to be able to end still chanting “Lower Decks! Lower Decks! Lower Decks!”

I don’t know. We only got like 10 x 25 minutes episodes per season. That’s not a lot of content.

I enthusiastically disagree. Lower Decks needs to boldly go and jump the shark more than traveling back in time to save a whale or talking to an old microwave that became a god.

I really enjoyed the live action cameos the two cast members did on SNW. Hopefully there will be more Trek work for them.

The world couldn’t handle a full 7 seasons of LD

Pretty gutted at this news, but as others have pointed out, this move may cement LD as a classic without outstaying their welcome. And hopefully there is a desire for more animated Trek now

“While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”

Indeed, if even an animated series is ending after five seasons, I expect this to be a pretty firm maximum moving forward.

“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,”

    That’s encouraging.

Dammit. This will leave SNW as the only Trek series? I like SNW a lot but two series would be nice given how short seasons are nowadays.

Prodigy soldiers on for now, and Starfleet Academy is in pre-production, set to start filming this summer.

Paramount doesn’t even want Prodigy on their own streaming service, I have no idea what they’re doing with the franchise…

Apparently, the numbers on P+ weren’t good - the Hagemans themselves have said so.

To be honest, if Paramount slowly decides that they’re better off selling their shows to other streamers… I’m not totally against it, depending on how it’s done.

    Oh no.

Edit: In case I’m coming across sarcastic, I’m not. I loved LD probably the most of the new batch of Star Trek shows. It was just a joy to watch.

Meanwhile, the adventures continue for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which has been renewed for season 4.

    At least there’s that.

It’s still surprising that Lower Decks ends so soon. It’s well received and should be reasonably cheap to produce. Why would they axe it?

That’s sad. While I didn’t enjoy every aspect of it, I quite enjoyed it overall. I’m happy to hear season 3 isn’t supposed to be the last for SNW though.
