    Bunch of fucking losers.

I’ll be a lot more concerned if and when they become so comfortable they don’t hide under masks anymore.

There are a few reports coming in from this thread. I’m open to changing my mind on any of the following, but the reason why I haven’t taken action on a few of the reports is as follows:

I think that it is both valid to question why these people are covering their faces, while also noting that covering your face isn’t “bad” in all cases. The same comment (“if they think they’re right, why hide their faces”) is also used against protestors when they push against the government. Based on the context, I think that’s the point that the other users in this thread wanted to make, but did so poorly. I don’t think those other users are in support of the white nationalists in the post, but rather they picked a bad example.

The difference between the two situations comes down to why the face is covered and what power that serves. Generally:

      • In rallies such as this, the face covering is for intimidation and group identity, and using anonymity to threaten the targeted minority group. It is also intended to hide the person from their community members, because of shame and embarrassment.
      • In protests, the face covering is to avoid retaliation from the authority figures that the person is protesting against. They rarely hide their thoughts and feelings about the matter from their community members.

Again, there is some overlap, but that it is why it’s usually more valid to criticize the former and not the latter.

As for the second argument, I think there is a misunderstanding between ‘human trafficking’ and ‘human smuggling’. Human trafficking is almost always defined as the exploitative practice, where the person being moved is being harmed. Human smuggling can take different forms, but it is not necessarily harming the person being moved. The example of the Underground Railroad and the networks that help refugees and victims escape harm, those would fall under the label of “Human Smuggling”, but the terms are often confused.

So overall I think the issues in this thread come from users making errors, rather than malice, and so I haven’t taken specific moderation actions. But again, open to changing my mind and taking action if more info is brought to light.

Two entirely different functions, one of which requires anonymity by default. What a silly comparison.

This is a demonstration not an underground resistance movement. They’re supposed to be proudly demonstrating what they believe.

Just about the falsest of equivalences that ever false-equivalenced. The Underground Railroad was humans trying to survive unspeakable conditions, it formed spontaneously, out of necessity. Nazism is humans trying to bring back those unspeakable conditions, it forms by choice, out of hatred and fear. The consequence of UR members losing their anonymity was torturous death for themselves and their loved ones, the consequences of these shitstains losing their anonymity is, at most, justified social ostracization. If the world knowing what you really believe means good, reasonable people think you’re a piece of shit, maybe it’s time to reflect on those beliefs, eh?

I don’t really care if the people that think the problem with fascist movements is anonymity don’t know what politics are.

Trafficking people was the only political tool they had to fight against oppression at the time, they weren’t able to lead to a larger change in society so they were reserved to impacting change on an individual level.

perhaps two dozen by my count!

Seriously though I hate that these cunts are everywhere. Not many presently but I suspect it’s a drip / trickle / flow thing. They grab on to genuine social problems and distort them to match their own ends.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but it can kinda fan the flames.

Most extremist groups use persecution, real or imagined, as a recruitment tool. Opposing these minority, extremist groups makes the people on their fringes feel isolated and pushes them towards the group.

An opposing protest isn’t going to change the minds that need to be changed.

I’m not necessarily saying it’s the wrong thing to do, just that it’s not really clear cut.

            Sure.
70 years after we fought a war to defeat fascism, it has been resurrected under the guise of American conservative populisim, in no small part because people have forgotten the lesson of WWII.

I mean, if you’re under the impression that we can somehow defeat fascism for all time then never ever have to worry about it ever again, then you’ll be sadly disappointed. Freedom requires vigilance.

I understand how that’s an appealing narrative that helps you make sense of the world and manage your feelings, and in that sense it is a very good narrative. But it’s not reality. The solution you’re so proud of requires a mass purge every three generations, and you think that’s just the way it has to be. Fully buying in to a narrative built around a cosmic conflict between good and evil FFS is buying in to the whole model of fascism. The ruling class WANTS the slaughter, the boom, the crunch, the conflict, and the next slaughter. Every step in the cycle, they ratchet their power and wealth. It’s not an accident that it keeps happening, and the solution isn’t just to play your role on the other side of the stage. It isn’t naive kids playing nazi who are your enemy, you naive kid playing WWII conscript. Fascism never ever occurs in the absence of wealthy capitalists. Shooting their employees doesn’t fucking solve anything.

Well I hate to break it to you, but you’ll never truly stamp out fascist ideology permanently for the rest of time. It must be continously fought against. Every generation needs to be educated to oppose it, and when it takes power it needs to be stamped out and destroyed, with violence if necessary.

It isn’t naive kids playing nazi who are your enemy,

YES, IT IS. Because “naive kids” grow up to be full fledged fascist adults. I’ll give you an example: 4chan.

Yes, 4chan is the reason why we have all these nazis running around. But back in 2003 one could actually get banned from 4chan for being racist. Moot used to periodically go through and perge all those assholes because he didn’t want his website turning into a white supremacist hang-out. See all the kids today are too young to remember, but back in the day if you ran a website, or a forum, chatroom, whatever, it was only a matter of time before the nazis and white supremacists showed up. They would congregate at places that had minimal moderation (this is how Club Penguin became overrun with white supremacists.) Then 4chan went with a “containment” policy, to isolate all that shit to /b/ but by 2015 it was too late. The neo-fascist movement, the Groypers, Gamergate, Incels, the Men’s rights assholes, all those people wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for 4chan. That’s where white supremacy took root online and spread like a cancer through everything else.

Well how did this happen? Because a significant number of the 22 million people who frequent 4chan every month are children. They get to say edgy stuff and act all rebellious, and it’s all fun and games, until it isn’t. Now we’re at a point where white supremacy is so common that leaked group chats for the Young Republicans read like fucking Mien Kampf. I’ve already gone on too long, but I’m pretty sure you get the point I’m making about indoctrination and desensitation.

So yes, it is very much “kids playing nazi” who are the enemy, and the assholes encouraging them to play even more so.

The ruling class WANTS the slaughter, the boom, the crunch, the conflict, and the next slaughter.

Well once you figure out how to stop war forever please let me know, I’ll be the first to listen. But it ain’t by playing nice with fascists.

Not the gloat you wish it was

Except what I said, which was “the most prosperous in the history of the human race” is 100% true. Quality of life for essentially everyone in the entire world went up in the 2nd half of the 20th century way beyond what they were before, even in countries like North Korea and Somalia. Advancements in technology, medicine, and globalization brought wealth to billions, much of which was due to the world order brought about by the allied powers.

Also, not sure why you think fighting fascism in that war was such a bad thing. Do you really think we’d be better off if the Nazis were not opposed?

That’s not how points of logic work. You only need one. If you reject some of them and others remain, you haven’t gotten anywhere except to be a distraction. Didn’t move the discussion anywhere.

Two truths that are not in conflict with each oner: 1) fascism is a systemic issue and as ideology will outlive any individual; 2) fascist individuals should not be tolerated
