It might be possible to follow a Lemmy user via Mastodon.

piefed sorta comes close, kinda. a toggle you can flip to get notified on another user’s new posts.
What else would follow mean?
I guess a feed with posts from people you follow? That’s how pixelfed works for example.
it’s not all activity. just new posts. and there’s no ui to manage the list of those you’re “following” in that manner.
On Mbin you can follow users of every platform and their posts will show up in your subscribed feed. You can also turn posts, communities and users to “loud” which means you receive a notification whenever there is a new comment / new post / new post of the user.
