Want to wade into the snowy surf of the abyss? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid.
Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful youāll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cutānāpaste it into its own post ā thereās no quota for posting and the bar really isnāt that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned so many āesotericā right wing freaks, but thereās no appropriate sneer-space for them. Iām talking redscare-ish, reality challenged āculture criticsā who write about everything but understand nothing. Iām talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. Theyāre inescapable at this point, yet I donāt see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldnāt be surgeons because they didnāt believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I canāt escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
(Credit and/or blame to David Gerard for starting this. Also, hope you had a wonderful Valentineās Day!)

I donāt know about them, but I would be offended if I was planning something with a collaborator, and they decide to give me a dumbed down, entertaining, childrenās storybook version of their plan while keeping all the technical details to themselves.
Also, this is absolutely not what ācognitive debtā means. Iāve heard technical debt refers to bad design decisions in software where one does something cheap and easy now but has to constantly deal with the maintenance headaches afterwards. But the very concept of working through technical details? Thatās what we call āthinkingā. These people want to avoid the burden of thinking.
Eh, one might say that going by the broad strokes version while letting the expert do their thing is basically what management is all about, especially if they ignore the part where he wants his version to be light and entertaining.
This isnāt about managing subordinates though, this is about devising ways to be complacent about not double checking what the LLM generates in your name.
Person who lied on his resume about having a cs degree āI need to reduce my cognitive debtā
Wait, wait, wait. I didnāt realize this before. Who the F needs to lie about not having a CS degree? Being a code monkey is (or at least used to be) something, where you can get away with not having a degree.
I was trying to make a joke (and failing) about how people misuse terms. Sorry about it not landing. Should have thought about it better.
Oh I get it now. I thought thereās some backstory that either Nathan Baschez or Simon Willison lied about having a CS degree.
Nope sorry, just a bad attempt at a joke. Made sense in my head the first time, now less ;).
