I’ve been on Fastmail for several years and like it a lot! It lets you use you own domain name as well. Their app is not particularly great, but you can hook things up with the default iOS/Android/whatever mail app just fine.

Yeah don’t let this stop you! If you do the side project for fun and/or learning, just go ahead and build stuff. Don’t look at other projects too soon so you give space to your own creativity. But perhaps compare stuff in a later stage.

I had to also enable the setting via my instance’s web interface, and now it’s working!

Big fan of the new logo! I would support a name change. Space theme would be nice. Suggestions: Nexus, Stellar, Artemis, Helios, Odyssey, Rover, Webb, Asteroid, Frontier.
