I love pinto beans. Throw them in an instant pot with a large onion, 4 cloves of garlic, and a jalapeno or two. Set it to cook for 45 minutes and let it release pressure naturally. Salt to taste. They make a great side and you can then make refried beans, if you like.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•at what point in life it's too late to go back to school?
4·2 months agoMy spouse is finishing a degree at 36 and kicking themselves they didn’t do it sooner. I’ll have some extra time in about 2 1/2 years and I want to try and fit in a class or two. It just depends on your situation, but if you’re needing a degree to get a better job, you’ll want to get to that earning potential ASAP. The cost could potentially just be a drop in the bucket if you still plan on working for another 30+ years. It can also be rewarding just to expand your knowledge and grow in unexpected ways. My advice is to just do it and get it over with already. Especially if it will lead to better opportunities and earnings. Or don’t, it’s your life.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Looking for witchy, gothic, mischievous, or devilish songs for my DND character
1·2 months agoSeason of the Witch by Donovan. Lana Del Rey has a remake but I prefer the original.
I’m aware. I’m also an experienced cook that would not add just anything to my food, or use improper cooking times and temps. I own a copy of the Betty Crocker cookbook that is my baseline for baking and meat temps.
Pinterest is also great to compare recipes. I like to take a few recipes and find things I like from each to customize things to my taste.

222·4 months agoLet me start by saying, “Fuck Paxton”. It is very convenient that J&J spun off just Tylenol into a different company about a year ago. No real reason except corporate word salad. This could get interesting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone know anything about wine and ale?
2·4 months agoYour selection is probably different since we are in very different regions, but I’ve had good luck with Curious Beasts, Bonterra, or Butter. Don’t overthink it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone know anything about wine and ale?
2·4 months agoI’d say go mid-range with the wine unless they’re super pretentious. Avoid sales because that can mean a wine is old and they need it gone. Red wine can range from in flavor but most people like Cabernet. If want to do something different you can do a port, or even old vine Zinfandel.

News@lemmy.world•A New Bill Aims to Ban Both Adult Content Online and VPN Use. Could It Work?
13·4 months agoIm sorry, but are you a psychologist or other mental health professional that works with kids? The typical behavioral issues remain, with new ones now being correlated with unsupervised access to the internet. So let’s just do nothing to try and help our educators and society at large.

News@lemmy.world•A New Bill Aims to Ban Both Adult Content Online and VPN Use. Could It Work?
14·4 months agoActually subscribe to a porn site. These problems haven’t always existed either. The internet is filled to the brim with abusive porn that wasn’t just available at your fingertips. Pre-internet you had to find magazines or actual movies. It’s very convenient to just shrug your shoulders when you’re not the one dealing with the actual problems. Fuck me for caring about the fate of kids, I guess.

News@lemmy.world•A New Bill Aims to Ban Both Adult Content Online and VPN Use. Could It Work?
25·4 months agoI actually work in education and this is genuinely a problem. There are children in elementary with unfettered access to the internet, and they are the kids with the most behavioral issues. These kids then grow into adults with issues and it genuinely does have a negative effect on our society. I do NOT want VPNs banned, because that is an obvious play at stopping adults watching whatever they want. What I do want is some way to stem the tide of hardcore porn being watched by young kids, which is currently the case. “Parents need to parent.” Yeah, good fucking luck with that. I’d encourage anyone reading this to reach out to your local educator and ask if too much internet access is fucking up these kids. I’m guessing I already know their answer.
People texting you could cost you money. Seriously.
