solo@piefed.socialto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•How the US has been a nation of suckers (forever)English51·3 days agoThis video is very informative and to the point imo, until she arrives at the point of Israel. Her analysis there becomes watered down to say the least in favor of white settler colonial zionism (after 42:55) by using the “both sides” arguments.
This is from the comment section of her video, and I find it very accurate:
Why would a study or analysis of the Palestinian Genocide require a look at antisemitic hate crimes? It has literally no bearing on whether Israel is engaged in a colonial project or exterminating Palestinians.
solo@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Starmer set to announce UK recognition of Palestinian stateEnglish211·4 days agoGreat. Recognising Palestine is one part of the equation. Of course, this is done too many decades too late.
The other part of the equation is Israel. Practically, what will the UK do to stop its Genocide and when? It looks like the UK still supplies millions of pounds worth of arms to Israel
Edit: Freezing Israeli Zionist assets sounds like a great option too to stop a Genocide. And the UK knows how to do this since around £25 billion of Russian assets are held there (see article).
solo@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•UK excludes Israelis from leading defense college over escalating war in GazaEnglish1·9 days agoA relevant article from declassified uk:
Revealed: The British military college teaching Israeli soldiers
After months of secrecy from Labour, we expose where Israeli troops have trained in Britain during the Gaza genocide.
Israeli army officers have been allowed to study at a British military academy in central London throughout the Gaza genocide, Declassified can reveal.
At least two Israeli colonels have attended the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) since 2023.
One of the soldiers, thought to be Elad Edri, only graduated a fortnight ago.
Another officer, Yeftah Norkin, completed the course in July 2024 and almost immediately led the army’s “Bang” division in Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. (…)
solo@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Spain cancels €700 million Israeli arms dealEnglish111·9 days agoThe Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security has been calling it a genocide since 2023: Statement on Why We Call the Israeli Attack on Gaza Genocide. Btw Lemkin is the person who first quoted and defined the term Genocide.
And what Le Monde has to say on the topic is:
what his leftist government called “the genocide in Gaza.”
They are clearly supporting the Genocide in Palestine.
solo@piefed.socialOPto World News@lemmy.world•Pro-Palestine actors use Emmy Awards platform to slam Gaza genocideEnglish3·9 days agoI don’t see anything surprising in what you describe. It is well known that Zionism uses Judaism as a tool for its settler colonialism for well over a century now. The Bund wrote anti-zionist songs at the time.
Clearly, Judaism and Zionism are not synonyms, nor have they ever been.
It is the Zionist state of Israel that tries to present Judaism and Zionism as synonyms. We shouldn’t fall for Zionist propaganda / Israeli propaganda / Hasbara, call it as you want, these are synonyms. And this is why we need to call out both Zionism and antisemitism.
Saying that Israel is a theocracy (…) because this is what the Jewish religion is, not only is an uniformed statement, it is also an antisemitic one. Israel is a settler collonial theocracy because of Zionist principals. (And the support from the West - meaning, the decendents of the christians and/or europeans that were procecuting Jewish populations for centuries. I won’t expand on this now.)
solo@piefed.socialOPto World News@lemmy.world•Pro-Palestine actors use Emmy Awards platform to slam Gaza genocideEnglish194·10 days agoYou conflate Judaism with Zionism, and this makes your comment antisemitic.
Edit: Being anti-zionist makes sense. See Jewish Voice for Peace - On Antisemitism, Anti-Zionism and Dangerous Conflations

No matter what, I hope the protest goes incredibly well!!
solo@piefed.socialto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Streamer Contrapoints comes out as LiberalEnglish4·3 months agoIt was a huge disapointment that contrapoints demonstrated this way of thinking on the genocidal settler colonial movement called zionism.
Personnaly, I listen to anti-zionist Jews on on the matter, like Jewish Voice for Peace, since they are the largest Jewish anti-zionist organization in the world. Having JVP’s input, I can say this word substitution doen’t work for me.
Still thank you OP for posting this because, somehow I wasn’t aware of it. I unsubscribed from contrapoint’s channel, and I will not watch any of her videos again, unless she has a change of heart.
solo@piefed.socialto World News@beehaw.org•The stunning reversal of humanity’s oldest biasEnglish2·3 months agoIf you look into the article, when this is mentioned, there is a relevant link. I think it is worth taking a look at it, because it gives perspective on this topic. Actually, a few, not only one.
The countries with the biggest skews in favour of boys in sex ratios at birth have seen a reversion towards the natural rate.
In a handful of places, the overall birth statistics appear to reflect a preference for girls over boys.
But in most countries, any preference for girls expressed in polls is not strong enough to show in the overall sex ratio at birth. Most parents-to-be seem to balk at sex-selective abortions, in other words.
The assumption that daughters will be more nurturing whereas sons will grow distant is ingrained even in the most egalitarian societies.
Edit: I rewrote the comment, when I realised there are a few links in the article that clarify things
solo@piefed.socialto World News@beehaw.org•The stunning reversal of humanity’s oldest biasEnglish5·3 months ago[…] boys will be aborted and neglected in favour of girls
It’s the first time I hear about this. Any relevant links you could share that corroborate this take?
Thanks for linking this. She does talk about this section at 37:39.
Yes, as she has said before, she is against the genocide. Still, even here, she says stuff like
No. The Israeli government promotes and legislates those crimes in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories - it doesn’t just tolerate them.
I have noticed that she really doesn’t like talking about anti-zionist points, even tho every now and then she mentions that it is not the same as antisemitism. Here is a very gentle and well-intended critique of her approach to antisemitism.
