Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My credit union no longer allows me to payoff pending purchases made on my credit cardEnglish
4·3 months agoNot going to teach people how to launder money, but one of the avenues that can be used to get a respectable transaction is to overpay from a dirty bank account to a credit card, and then the financial institution will credit into the users clean bank account which will raise less flags then a direct transfer. This is just one step in a process, and not even sure it works anymore. But many banks would rather just not deal with it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I have a very strange question about washers, dryers and the Middle East.
5·1 year agoBeen living in the US for almost exactly 40 years, never had a dryer on the right. Mostly Chicago and Detroit. I don’t think I would like the opposite. Is this really a norm I wasn’t aware of and somehow never encountered

News@lemmy.world•California could ban Clear, which lets travelers pay to skip TSA lines
55·2 years agoDislike this. I never saw it as a wealthy skip the line. It’s not that expensive . And they are on their private jets already. It’s great for those of us that travel enough for work that it justifies the cost. When you fly more than once a week it’s nice to be able to pay to not have to wait for those that do it twice a year(and are not as efficient due to lack of practice)

Technology@lemmy.ml•We Are Retroactively Dropping the iPhone’s Repairability Score | iFixit
8·2 years agoNoone is saying it should be outlawed. What they are saying is that in order for a device to be considered highly repairable to an end user this type of check should be able to be turned off or not included.

Technology@lemmy.ml•We Are Retroactively Dropping the iPhone’s Repairability Score | iFixit
15·2 years agoYou cannot and that’s ok. The problem here is people have different levels of risk acceptance and that’s ok. If I was a government or corporate leader I would probably prefer buying direct from apple, but most end consumers, especially those who want to do these repairs should have the choice to accept that risk on a device that they own. The manufacturer shouldn’t decide who I trust. The owner should.
Thanks every couple of months I see an xkcd and think haven’t read that in a while, then I get to go catch up. Today was a good day
