Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Clarksworld Magazine: SciFi short stories published monthly
2·3 days agoClarkesworld has been doing an excellent job for years. It publishes a lot of great stories and regularly features translations of Chinese SF (notably), which is fantastic.
Unfortunately, the magazine is struggling financially. I hope more people will subscribe, especially since the subscription price is quite reasonable.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Science fiction writer John Scalzi discusses his novel 'Monsters of Ohio'
4·3 days agoA long time ago, I tried reading a Scalzi’s novel (I don’t remember the title), but it just didn’t click with me. I found it rather bland.
Do someone think I should give him another chance? Especially since he’s also written a few short stories that I haven’t checked out yet. If they’re any good, I’d consider interviewing him.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•The Choice (1952) - W. Hilton-Young
1·3 days agoI’m French, and I have heard multiple times of Jouvenel, but as a classical liberal thinker (On Power, his most famous book). Just did a small research and saw some of his book aren’t about political philosophy, one of them being titled The Art of Conjecture. Guess you’re thinking about this one. Would you say it’s worth reading?

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Silly Asses (1958) – Isaac Asimov
4·15 days agoMy attention span has been really harmed by my phone usage, but at the time I first read it, I was able to read 400 pages a day (same nowadays). I have focus problems watching videos or movies, but reading is just in my blood. I think the explanation lies in the fact that reading, if you think about it, is non-stop action/interaction, contrary to videos. I guess that’s why I can read so much without difficulty.
So the attention-span probably wasn’t the reason it bored me.
I’ll maybe try again in the future.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Silly Asses (1958) – Isaac Asimov
12·15 days agoDidn’t know that, amazing trivia! Found the story on Stackexchange.
As for Asimov’s long-form writing: I tried to read Foundation, but I couldn’t get into the first book (it bore me to death). I might try again in the future, maybe Ive tried reading it too young.
Idk. Any Asimov fan here?

“Forget about it,” he said. “He’ll do all right.”
