I just did the same thing - logged on to my facebook account after many years, and I’m not having the same experience at all. Old friends, neighbors, and relatives posting disappointing amounts of AI slop, some local news it suggests I follow (something about a hairdresser getting fined for refusing service), one particular former neighbor posting an endless barrage of AI-generated religious slop… and that’s about it. It wasn’t interesting a decade ago, and it only got less interesting since.

Opensource@programming.dev•Is there any software that can use it that benefits average user or is it just a waste of silicon???English
7·25 days agoAlso on an Asus laptop with Fedora, after following some obscure instructions from amd I managed to get a Python script to confirm the npu exists and is technically functional… But apparently to do anything approaching useful, I need the slightly fancier npu. What a waste.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•New York teachers stunned to learn some students can’t read time on old clocks after phone ban comes into playEnglish
7·2 months agoThis is not surprising at all. Even when taking about time relative to the analog clock, it gets difficult, a lady asked me for the time at Walmart, and she could not understand “half past six”. When I clarified that’s 6:30, she finally got it.

5·4 months agoI’ve never been to Taco Bell, and I’m confused that none of the comments mention tacos. Unless the Chalupa is a kind of taco I’ve never heard of.
I was in a (very) long distance relationship at the time, and decided it was worth taking risks and making bold moves, so I moved to close the distance. We got married in 2008, and are married still, so that worked out great. I tried keeping in touch with friends, but over time our life experiences diverged to the point where we just didn’t have a lot to talk about anymore, and old friendships fizzled out. I learned many things, got new jobs and made new friends, and overall life is good.
In 2007 I left everything and everyone I knew behind, and moved to another country across the ocean
Thank you, that’s the piece I was missing :)
This doesn’t feel like the right translation for “horsemen” in German
