No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why Aren't there More Fem-Focused Werewolf Stories?
1·2 months agoSorry, I actually finished reading it a few months ago and really look forward to it. Alternatively I would suggest the book, “The Tainted Cup” by Robert Jackson Bennett. It’s a fantasy spin on Sherlock Holmes and after reading it and the sequel it’s fantastic. Third book comes out in august 😆.

2·2 months agoThere’s a sequel book in the works and will be released May 2027 called, “Heretics”.
From a quick summary: James Cameron has acquired the film rights to Joe Abercrombie’s dark fantasy novel The Devils through his production company, Lightstorm Entertainment. Cameron, who will co-write the screenplay with Abercrombie, plans to begin development on the project after completing Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Strava just killed its free API, will require a subscription if you want to build on top of itEnglish
1·3 months agoRunnerUp is an app ive been using for a while and it does the basic gps tracking for your activities and even has an option to tell you if your pace is slower or faster than you set. You can connect it to your Strava account to upload data to if you want, but otherwise the data is on your device. I don’t know about smartwatch compatibility, but I use the phone app and just put my phone in my Nathan’s Belt.
Sounds like a song title “it’s you, her, and the CIA”

12·4 months agoTotally understandable, however basic tailscale version is free and you can just have that installed on all of the connected devices as a “reverse proxy”. You then use the ip adress from the server or main computer with the files and connect to its tailscale provided ip adress after turning it on and as long as you have port 8096 open on the server computer (http:/with your adress here:8096) you can connect to the server through the jellyfin app on the device you’ve installed it on.

News@lemmy.world•Colorado Democratic Lawmakers Push for Age Verification at the Operating System Level
10·6 months agoI’ve seen it mentioned somewhere else, but while they don’t mention it in the arricle. There’s a chance we are possibly looking at age restriction at the isp level. This could be a way, but there will be work arounds for those tech savy enough to get around them I could forsee.
We could start our own underground p2p or LAN connection completely detached from regular isp but the logistics to that would be extremely difficult to pull off on a massive scale and more than likely would be more locally based amongst friends and neighbors. Vpns could get blocked at the isp as well, so that wouldn’t be an option either to bypass it. I welcome any corrections though if I’m mistaken. Hopefully it doesn’t get thay far, but a lot of these similar laws are occurring all over the world and not just in the USA.
There’s usenet, freenet, hypnanet, and tor. However, the protocols could get blocked and or restricted, so not sure if there’s a way around that.
