Admittedly, Nexcloud does try to be the everything app, and for several of those things, it naturally loses out to more specialised applications (e.g. photos vs. immich). Contacts and calendars, however, are such a no-brainers (particularly when run through card/calDAV, not the web apps) that I don’t see why I’d set up yet another service just for that.

And then there’s the broad claim in the title, which, unless OP can provide proper evidence, is entirely made-up bullshit. I use downvotes very sparingly here on Lemmy, but this disinformation piece deserves all the red it gets.

Personally, I prefer the latter because it’s much more powerful. Also, I’ve experienced issues with LocalSend and VPN usage.

Ich weiß nicht, ob das bei Navidrome ähnlich ist. Generell: Wenn ich einen Dienst nicht zwingend öffentlich haben muss (weil nur ich ihn nutze oder wenige Eingeweihte), dann bleibt er hinterm VPN. Öffentlich habe ich nur meine Nextcloud und den Webserver. VPN an zum Musikhören ist ja nur ein Klick mehr (auf Android wie Linux) - das tut mir nicht weh.

@Maps: Ich habe im Sommer OrganicMaps für mich entdeckt und bin begeistert. Material ist von OpenStreetmaps (d.h., du hast jeden Briefkasten eingezeichnet), kann aber auch Navigation. Und das alles ohne mobile Daten. Bin damit ins Ausland, dort herum und zurück. Hat mich nie im Stich gelassen.
Navidrome ist ein Träumchen. Für den Client würde ich aber von Vibecoding-KI-Slop wie “Resonus” abraten und auf bewährte Anwendungen echter Coder wie z.B. Tempus setzen.
