  • Also to add: all lighting and power circuits are required to be on RCBO’s or breaker+RCD unless they are extremely old switchboards that havent had any modifications done since the law was introduced (as modifying the switchboard would trigger an rewuired upgrade in most cases).
Any device that is in a common area that can be touched by a non-licenced person (ie non-electrician) should also be on a RCBO, but this isnt as well enforced.

So even if you do manage to youch live parts on the Aus socket/plugs, you will be protected by the RCD/RCBO instantly.

The downside to the Aus socket is that it can be a little tricky/annoying plugging something in when you are reaching behind an object (like a couch or cupboard) and cant see the socket to line it up.

  • I get ya, what works for you is best, i used to put my phone in my shirt pocket a lot too but too many times i would lean over to do something/pick up something and then hear it hit the floor just as i straightened up.

Another trick i like is to wear those wired ‘ear bud’ style headphones that come with my phone and run the cord down my shirt along my back and into phone in pants pocket. The earbuds fit under ear muffs and dont dangle in front of me when using tools as they can only hang about 10cm in front of my face if they fall out, and to answer a call i just squeeze the button on the cord and the mic seems to pick me up fine for a quick call and keep working.

  • As water starts to freeze the molecules start to rearrange thrmselves from a free flowing random motion into a crystal lattice. As it does this the molecules push each other a little further apart and lock into place, but because they are further apart they now take up more ‘space’ and as such they are less dense. The water wround them now has more water molecules for the same volume that the ice does and that means the water sinks (as its heavier) and ice rises.

To really ELI5: Imagine water is like a crowd of people balanced on a REALLY giant see-saw, everybody is really squished together and when they get cold they decide to put their arms out wide and grab hands with the people around them, but making small circles with the other people also grabbing hands until there is a big group of people made of little rings of people arms out holding hands. Now imagine that the people with their arms out have to spead out and some fall off the edge of the see-saw. Now there are less people on one side of the see-saw and because the other side is heavier, that side drops and the people with their arms out rises.
