implementation of my proposal would still require a minor revolution as the current system will not allow to elect a legislator that will pass these points:

1. Designate any newspaper, TV/YouTube/telegram channel, blog, Instagram account, etc with more than a 100k monthly views/impressions/followers/whatever as a public faced media.
2. Make the only allowed ownership form of these media outlets something like worker cooperatives.
3. Somewhat limit the ownership stakes so that no single member of this cooperative can make all the decisions.
4. The cooperative should have public financial records so the anyone can see where the revenue comes from.

This still does not protect against a billionaire buying out everyone in the cooperative through donations via multiple shell companies, but it is an improvement. What I like is that a large media holding can still exist under this scheme, but any corruption would be somewhat apparent.

what you are proposing is basically censorship, and state censorship is much easier to consolidate than the current billionaire-based one

you guys are hilarious, I used to live somewhere where this system exists and was designed with all these right reasons and now a social media post that conflicts with the state’s viewpoint will land you a 10 year sentence.

this seems like an especially likely outcome if designed in the current US political climate.

my point is regulation is not a solution and I don’t see any way to overcome this under capitalism. the only thing that might work is some kind of worker-operated cooperative like what the guys at 404 media are doing.

who do you expect is the person deciding what reporting is free and fair? is there a governmental regulatory body, created with the purpose of determining if the reporting was factual? shouldn’t the efficiency of this process be improved via pre-approving any media by this regulator to avoid fines?

That feels more like shitty electronics rather than something inherent for start stop. Sometimes my car fails to figure out that it’s time to engage the clutch and I’m sitting and revving like an idiot without moving. Modern cars are terrible, unfortunately, parts for older cars are terrible as well.

yeah, it was the first time for me as well. I thought the re-enabling on each start was mandated by law (as well as stuff like ESP and emergency collision avoidance), but this car lets me disable anything, forever (well, it glitches sometimes and resets settings to factory, thankfully all the things I want disabled are displayed on screen)

I once rented the cheapest three cylinder Renault to drive in the mountainous terrain in 40 degree heat. The car barely managed to go uphill but not once I had problems with the AC or the start stop system. In the heat the car would stop the engine and then turn it back on as soon as temperature deviated from the set target. This would repeat two to three times, then it would just preemptively show a message on the screen saying “prioritizing thermal comfort” when stopped. The start-stop would resume as usual when it got cooler, no input was required at all.

Never got the hate for the feature, you just have to remember to jerk the steering wheel a bit before the light change if starting 1.5 seconds earlier is critical.

I drive a newish Chinese car and it does not reset from factory. The button has a persistent state and I have to go through 3 menus on the touch screen to toogle it. Drives me mad as I want to disable the start-stop very rarely in humid conditions and remembering to turn it back on is a chore.

Please share your experience when you get to it! I try to avoid iot stuff though and thought of something simpler like dimmable lights that get warmer when dimmed - like the Ikea ones, but with 2700k as the highest point it does not really work.

I thought that maybe the ideal solution would be to wire DC lightning with relays controlling groups of different temperature LEDs. Maybe glueing LED strips to the ceiling and a translucent film under them to diffuse it a bit? I feel like ordering a giant bin of random LEDs should lead to the best possible CRI.

Also each of the 8 bulbs I ordered had Ra>95 written on the box and they just lie because I can instantly tell that the light is wrong. Bad CRI is so prevalent that friends come to my house and think my lights are incandescent.

Yes, we only turn the lights on after the sun’s color temperature matches our 2700K lights. During the cloudy winter days we spend the entire day in darkness to avoid mismatched temperature.

Sometimes I really want to get adjustable LEDs for winter, but it is hard enough to find warm ones with a high enough CRI. I once ordered and returned about 8 different bulbs which had price points from €2 to €100, before going to Ikea and buying bulbs there.

That’s strange - vanilla gnome should start in overview mode and dash is populated with gnome apps by default. Aside from that, there’s a button in the upper left corner that goes into overview if you press it.

Maybe your install did get corrupted, because literally my grandma could figure it out. On the other hand, most mainstream distros ship with dash to dock and discoverability must be the reason.

Can anyone share the state of modern Nvidia cards on linux nowadays? I was looking into building a more modern gaming/rendering rig and AMD GPUs are way more expensive than Nvidia here. Reddit provides contradictory information.

if you already have an esim on the phone it will not be wiped during installation - esims reside on a completely separate chip.

all “difficult to set up” information is exactly about that - setting up, that, in any case, is just about enabling specific google services that you can disable afterwards.

my phone has about 5 esims installed, I regularly wipe my phone, they are unaffected.
