Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Skynet likely never achieved self awareness or super-intelligence, so Terminator is actually just a cautionary tale of AI in an idiocracy.English
23·3 months agoYeah I’ve said a number of times that the AI being designed today could easily destroy humans, but not because it becomes self aware. The more likely possibility is that this beta tool gets put in control of critical systems by someone cutting corners and bam, total meltdown. Not because the AI is intending to do harm, but instead simply because it is ill suited for the task and NOT an actual intelligence.
I don’t know if anyone has said this, I didn’t go through all the comments, but be sure to probe depression or mood disorders. If you’re not active also definitely try adding a little bit of activity early every day even if you feel like you can’t, just let yourself tap out if you want but at least show up and start to see if you actually want to continue.
I am definitely NOT saying to not continue to probe medical reasons by any means. But feeling tired all the time can be a characteristic of mood disorders and it can be easy to misattribute just how physically tired that can make you for a physical ailment. It can also be hard to see it when you may have coped well with it your whole life, but are only now reaching the burnout from it.

4·3 months agoI just finished Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel, which I quite liked, and am now on to Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.
Bit of a shift!

Yup. I have no real problem with the concept being pushed around of automation giving us freedom, except that our capital obsessed society has no plan for how to support humans during this revolution and little willingness to even entertain the idea that it’ll be necessary.
