If you’re thinking about Linux and low on funds maybe your chromebook is supported by https://mrchromebox.tech/#home
I’ve been using it on a 2017 pixelbook with Fedora. No ragrets even after this thing turned me into a kernel contributor over audio regressions. I replaced ChromeOS on my partners as well. We decided to do it now since updates are ending relatively soon so she could go back while we look for a replacement, though she’s been relatively happy and I think what’s done is done now.
Yes, it’s using qemu-system-ppc to emulate a pegasos 2 system. I don’t know too much about Amiga systems; I’ve always wanted to give AmigaOS a whirl, but the hardware is prohibitively expensive over here. Having said that I guess the odd part is using an sm501 GPU, which is why you need to create the custom ISO that takes and uses the driver for it from the sam460 ISO. Shipping those two ISOs from overseas was unfortunately also expensive and took a couple weeks. Alinea Computer did a great job packing though and the box was in great shape when it got here.
I ended up using MorphOS and the last Debian PPC release to dial in most of the Libvirt configuration while waiting. Debian PPC works. MorphOS also works except I have not been able to get any network card to work with it, contrary to the suggestion it should work, which is a shame because audio works and I think that’s the thing that hasn’t worked for it in virtualized environments up until now.
