Verification Codes.

One-Time my ass, more like, repeated times. I’m so tired of verification codes up the ass these days. Just today, I had to reset my PayPal password. So that meant there was a code sent to an e-mail address after the reset process was set, to begin with. Then I had to go through the obstacle of verifying the information of the account. And then even after the password was reset, I’m sent ANOTHER freaking code right after!

And it’s even more frustrating to deal with, with my bank. I’ve gotten random verification checks for making internal transfers within my account. Things I’ve done without any issue. But just one day, I got THREE verification checks to do what I needed to do!

This verification shit has gotten out of hand! I want it to just die, just like captcha. Whatever purpose they originally were intended to do, is lost in translation, because now they’re just obstacles that wastes our time every minute we have to bother with them.

    Fireworks.

I live in the Netherlands and New year’s eve is hell on earth here. Even the weeks leading up to it are bad. This year is the first year that consumer fireworks are banned, but of course there are already people going to Germany, Belgium or Poland to buy them anyway. And it’s not just the pretty stuff, it’s more like bombs. It would be so much better if it just disappeared.

This could be a long list, not sure.

    1. AI - no more data centers, no more vibe coded junk, all CEOs drinking the AI Kool-aid need to go away.
    2. Mass Surveillance - Online, offline, and in cars.
    3. Politicians - Especially those who make laws about things they don’t understand.
    4. Science deniers - no more religion, no more fake news, no more alternative facts.
    5. Bigtech.
    6. Fossil fuels.

    On a more personal level:

    1. Filler words in the spoken word - “I mean”, “um”, “like”.
    2. Tailgaters - Just fuck off, I’m driving the speed limit (usually a few over) and if that isn’t fast enough, tough cookie.
    3. Lazy co-workers -
    4. No more scented products - perfumes, body wash, laundry products, etc.

US-defaultism on Lemmy. It’s gotten so bad, many users absolutely don’t seem to realise that they’re writing to an international audience.

We don’t need a stupid app for every separate thing. And don’t force a redirect to the mobile app instead of the website.

Politics. Or rather having to hear about it. 2016-2020 and 2024 - current, has so much negativity and I just miss not having to hear about it literally every day.

Stocks. But I’d almost be satisfied if those who make the rules governing them weren’t allowed to profit from them.

I can no longer get at my PayPal account. It keeps sending the verification code to the wrong number and I can’t check and fix the number because I need a verification code to log in. Round and round we gooooo.

    Anyway. Fuck cancer.

Planned obsolescence/bricking devices the manufacturer deems as “too old.”

Not just devices, stuff like clothing too. Fabric made too thin and the seams far too weak, clothing starts falling apart in less than a couple years of use.

I got rid of a bunch of old clothes a while ago because I was moving. I thought I could just replace them. I was wrong.

The clothing part is the price for having cheap clothes. The moment you start to make clothes you realise how expensive are fabrics, for what they charge for a shirt in a shop a can buy half the fabric needed to make that same shirt.

Go away: Any automotive HVAC controls that are not three simple fucking knobs. I’m going to wreck my wife’s car fiddling with the touchscreen, which has a 2-second delay before the press actuates. 🙄😡

While we’re at it, give us back AC vents that rotate 360° and open nearly 180°.

We had these things perfected over 20-years ago!

My job has a lot of driving. I’ve been put through multiple driving courses on safe driving. We have literal rules about not being able to turn left into our parking lot. Everything is safety, safety, safety.

They bought vehicles where almost everything is on the touch screen. The solution? Tell us to set everything before we drive and pull over if we need to use the touch screen…

I can sit in a car I’ve never driven and work the controls pictured. I’m not one for government mandates on every little thing, but touch screen controls have got to fucking go.
