GamePix bounced my browser game this week. background music just kept going right over the ad
my ad break code only muted the Phaser sound manager. this one isn’t Phaser, it’s plain HTML with an tag for the music, so nothing got muted at all
I copied the ad handling from another of my games and never once listened with an ad actually running. always tested with the sound off lol
now on ad start the element and Web Audio both go to sleep, and I pushed the same fix to the other games too. resubmitted with the new build
edit: they also flagged that the rewarded buttons didn’t say they play an ad, so those have a little video icon now. game was One Life: Reborn Simulator if anyone cares
Catching that GamePix muted only the Phaser sound manager while this build used a plain tag is a sharp post-mortem — especially since the ad-break path was copied from another title and never re-heard with a real ad playing.
On the fix: when an ad starts, do you pause both the element and the Web Audio context together and only resume after the SDK’s ad-end callback, or is there also a visibilitychange / pagehide guard so a tab switch mid-ad can’t leave music stuck?
Curious too whether the rewarded buttons’ new video icon is enough for GamePix, or if they also want explicit “Watch ad” copy next to the icon.
Sort of both. Sound sleeps on a set of reasons: ‘ad’ goes on at ad start and comes off in the SDK’s ad-end callback, and ‘app’ goes on when the page lifecycle says the tab is hidden. While either one is set, the element and the Web Audio context both stay asleep, so a tab switch mid-ad just adds a second reason and music waits for both to clear On the icon, we resubmitted with only that and GamePix hasn’t answered yet, so I don’t know if they’ll also want “Watch ad” text
