Sarajevo Safari is the name for an alleged war tourism phenomenon during the siege of Sarajevo (1992–1996) involving human hunting. According to the reports, wealthy foreign nationals were enabled, for large monetary fees, to shoot at civilians in the besieged city with sniper rifles for entertainment purposes.

    Money/power corrupts.

If you’ve had a taste of power at work, say in middle management, you probably know what I mean. Imagine that 1000X stronger. Hand almost anyone a billion dollars, and they’ll quickly lose their compassion and empathy.

You’re not immune, you just don’t have access.

I believe that the type of people who are “corrupted” by power are typically the ones who seek it. I feel like there are plenty of people who wouldn’t be corrupted by power, but they’re the ones who do not seek power, and thus are rarely in positions of large amounts of power.

Possibly. It has been suggested and investigated, but there is no definite evidence of this, and the two named sources in the book about it give conflicting info, all of it second hand.

Prosecutors said the evidence seized included a photo of the suspect with technical equipment and a silencer.

Maybe there’s more? This is hardly “significant,” a picture of a man with a gun at an unknown time and location. This is the only evidence cited

There’s pictures of me with a silenced rifle, and I definitely never hunted people in Sarajevo in the 90s.

The guy was boasting about his trip so it’s not “just a picture”…

Do you boast to your wife about your war crime tourism ?

Saw a small documentary about it (even if it wouldn’t surprize me that much). Apparently no actual evidences found, and that only served to divert attention from the crimes that were actually committed by the army against civilians.

The Wikipedia article is well sourced, and the multiple investigations managed to name both individuals and right-wing groups.

Maybe the better question to ask is who funded the documentary that says no evidence was ever found, because clearly some was, enough to fuel multiple international investigations.

“Investigations” aren’t the same as “conclusions.” Naming people just means accusing them.
