After having used Chat GPT for a while to just check it out, I had decided to not use it due to the high water consumption and me not really needing it for a while. Now that I had discovered the Buy from EU movement and am dual using Reddit and feddit right now, I decided to check out EU made AI solutions and the most promising for me right now is Mistral Le Chat, even though I will probably only use it occasionally just like Chat GPT. I am still glad that I support a european made solution and alternative to not give money, or in this case, revenue from data selling to a literal fascist billionaire…

I started using Le Chat a few weeks ago, also inspired by the Buy From EU initiative.

While I’m missing some creature comforts (memory, projects), the experience is good enough for me to switch. I’ve canceled my Chat GPT subscription because of it. Remember to export your data from OpenAI. It gives you a raw dump of all your conversations and customizations.

I may need to ‘retune’ my prompting because I was getting slightly better responses with o3 for coding. Also a warmer tone in conversation. But it wasn’t enough to stop me from moving over.

I just hope that features like memory or a general inprovement in quality of answers, tone of messages etc will be brought to Le Chat over time once the programme gets patched further. Thank you for the tip to export my data from open AI

I switched as well. Additionally I was only using free gpt, and now have a Mistral subscription. Extra support for a growing EU company and better rates.

I’ve been using it for a few days as well, I honestly don’t notice a difference. I wasn’t a chat gpt power user to begin with. So all of the upsides of switching without any of the downsides, sounds good to me!

I’m going to switch as well, when my subscription on openai is up.

    How are mistrals reasoning models?

Oh no, that is truly terrible. Still, every company in our capitalist world has at least a few (sometimes literal) corpses in their basements. Trust me on that, I am German…

Yes that is true even though Fanta is part of the Coca Cola company whose execs are still alive and it’s still an american company. We do have lots of better tasting and sonewhat healthier alternatives for that in Germany or Europe as a whole.

No you are not wrong, while it had originated in Germany during a certain time period involving an Austrian painter, it is still a Coca Cola product. So just buy the higher quality and better tasting alternatives.

Does it count as European if it was trained on content stolen “fair used” from all around the world?

Well by this metric nothing counts as made in country or region x,y,z because there is alwqys either some sort of theft or “inspiration” involved. Don’t get me wrong, I despise the way these companies basically got around copyright to the disadvantage of the artists and authors making the content, while I am not even allowed to make a copy of what I own or get it someway when it isn’t in sale anymore…
