I know the EU moves slowly but Trump first got in 2016 and after he was out Europe went PHEW thankfully we can now go back to relying on America again

It’s pretty clear that something is/was embedded into their thinking that America is the only one who can provide the services they need and everything else is too hard

There’s also the thing where the US will turn on your country if you ever try to be more independent. NATO isn’t just a defence agreement, it’s a subsidy to the US defence industry. It’s the only explanation for countries willingly signing up to the F-35 programme.

I don’t think that Europe necessarily thought that we could rely on the US again, more like “PHEW, there isn’t a madman in charge any more”. Lo and behold, it should be finally clear for everyone that the US itself is the nut job and shouldn’t be trusted. Therefore the “Buy European” movement.

I’m still 50/50 on whether the moment someone else gets in charge and starts apologising to Europe whether they’ll immediately revert to relying back on the US again

TBD. I’ve drawn the conclusion that I’m too reliant on US services so I’m starting to self host soon all the things I’m using for privacy concern and to disconnect from the US, as well I’ve started to consciously search for European products.
