It has totalled them as the items are sent everyday after they are introduced.
If n is the day the item is introduced, the total quantity is 42-(n-6.5)2.
Easier: n(13-n).
Empirically, 42.25 instead of 42.
How can you have 0.25 of an item when the song only has whole numbers?
Start with 10 and subtract 2 for every step
