17·4 months agoyep, i was just ranting to my girlfriend about this. It’s really depressing that folks are convinced this is going to solve real problems.

this rumor with the image has been spreading everywhere, but the image is from LA from a few years ago (note the lack of snow and palm trees), and i have yet to find any secondary source about this actually taking place in Minneapolis.
well, some of it is, like the =, but he also misspells tons of stuff, adds spaces all over the place, doesn’t capitalize anything, etc
i suspect the problem is the large number of example code snippets that push aside security in favor of simplicity for the example.

This is just a complete misunderstanding (by the manager) of how LLMs work. Sure, they probably log conversations as training data for a new model, but session to session, it does not improve from talking to it. The model is fixed. There are strategies which boil down to having the LLM write a diary of things it should “remember” which it subsequently has to reread when relaunching, but those suffer from fundamental limits, only so much can be stored before it runs out of context.
It’s so frustrating how much imaginative thinking and anthropomorphization is applied to these tools…
