I think they’ve really underestimated just how little consumers care about IP when the product attached to it is trash.
20 years ago, Halo was one of the most beloved gaming IPs. Now, after a decade of garbage, hardly anyone gives a shit about it.

Why TF does Jack Sparrow have a revolver that was invented in the 19th century…?
EDIT: and what the fuck is going on with the ring on his pinky finger? Or the backwards cigarette sticking out of his lip (not his mouth)? Fuck this cheap AI slop.

For anyone else as confused as I was, touchHLE is an emulator for running iOS apps. It has nothing to do with psychedelic drugs.
The AGENTS.md file was apparently an attempt to trip the AI’s safety measures so they would refuse to work on the project — I assume to reduce the amount of slop PRs submitted to the project.

“Bad things now for good things later” is the oldest scam in the book.
That’s exactly the same logic that gets people to send their money to fake Nigerian princes with the promise they’ll be rewarded with riches later.

When the name is worth more than the product, you know the whole industry is bullshit.
Hot take: thing that has happened organically since the dawn of entertainment will continue to happen organically
“We’re sorry and we’re listening” has basically been Bungie’s motto for the entire post-Halo era.
Not saying they can’t pull off a comeback, but Jesus Christ… this is like the sixth or seventh time they’ve had to make an announcement like this. Somebody break they fucking cycle already…
ETA: I’ll be curious to see if they shoot themselves in the dick again by charging players to regain access to the vaulted content.

There are no good billionaires. Eat the fucking rich.

Chain of Thought (what he’s describing on his first point) is NOT the same thing as infinite context. It’s not even a case of “I’m simplifying this for non-technical people”, he’s just straight up conflating two completely different things.
His explanation of agents is also wrong in that they don’t “learn” anything. They have their internal model weights from training and they have the stuff in their context window and that’s it. Agents don’t have any magical “learning” ability. Finish one task with an agent and it will immediately forget what it just did.
These are the people making the big decisions and guiding the industry and they a) don’t even fucking know how the technology works, b) are blatantly lying about it, or c) both.

Nike should sign her instead.
“Just doodoo it.”

I think the point is more about forcing this back into the news cycle right before the midterms.

I use AI every day to do the typing for me, but not the thinking.
It’s probably going to take a few years, but eventually I think devs will finally realize that the typing is the thinking.
There are projects I worked on 5+ years ago that I can still describe in intimate detail. I remember the design decisions, I remember the concessions I had to make for technical or business reasons, I remember they connect to other systems, etc. Then by contrast I have code I wrote with Claude ~2 months ago and I can barely remember a single fucking thing about it… I did all the same planning and made all the same kinds of decisions, the only difference is that I didn’t write the actual code.
And that makes sense. When you physically engage with the code by manually typing, you’re creating connections in your brain that you don’t get just from reviewing it. It’s exactly the same reinforcement mechanism you get from taking physical notes during a lecture versus just passively listening. Physical engagement builds memory and sharpens understanding.
Two or three years from now, when all of the projects minted in the '23-'26 era have aged into ‘legacy’ status and the AI-generated technical debt has been left to proliferate unchecked, things are going to start breaking in ways that the LLMs won’t be able to reason their way out of. Maybe they’ll be able to ‘fix’ bugs as they pop up, but in slopified code fixing something in component A is inevitably going to break something in component B, and fixing something in component B will break component C, etc. Eventually you’ll end up with a disgusting, agentic ouroboros of regressions, and the only devs left in the industry will be wishing they hadn’t mortgaged all of their intelligence on short-term productivity gains — most of which only benefited the shitty tech companies that were so desperate to replace them.

There are plenty of idiots in any era.

Atlas Shrugged
it’s become too political
Become? It’s literally a political manifesto…

Denuvo sues anonymous game cracker
I’m not a lawyer, but does habeas corpus not apply in cases like this…?

AI or not, I refuse to believe anyone is capable of being the sole maintainer of 100+ anything while preserving any kind of quality. Most of these packages were probably functionally abandoned already, if not technically.
VC investors, maybe
