$19 billion seems high.

Could they have handled this whole situation any worse?

Yea, I think that’s pretty indisputable. My sense is a native Apple Silicon + Metal binary would be highly competitive with a higher end Windows machine, but Rosetta + WINE only gets you so far. Hopefully, the fact that every Mac now for sale has a GPU ranging from decent to beefy will make macOS worth targeting for developers.

I think this is very disappointing, and exceptionally selfish, to split up some of the largest Lemmy communities while a mass Reddit exodus is ongoing. We should be sticking together and trying to grow the Fediverse as a whole, rather than trying to wall off any one single community at this point. That said, I hope this is the end of this approach, and that smaller instances, particularly ones that support a particular community won’t be pushed aside as well (hello from Lemmy Portugal).

I don’t know anything about this one in particular but I have some familiarity with Esperanto. I think they’re interesting academically as someone interested in languages, but I don’t see myself learning one. I just don’t see how it’s worth the time investment versus learning a language spoken natively by other humans, realistically.

Hietzing! Die legendäre 13!!! Fuck yeah!

…but that said, if you let us know what you’ve liked and disliked so far, I bet we can sling you a few more recommendations to find similar things and help you branch out!

Hey, ain’t nothin’ wrong with Total Wine, I used to hit that up all the time when I lived in Florida. I think as you get more into it, and discover what you like, you’ll find that joining a few wine clubs is the best way to get smaller-batch stuff that’s more aligned with your own tastes, assuming you’re into domestic wines as well. I live in Portugal now so sadly access to American wine is scarce, but when I lived in Fort Lauderdale I had a bunch of wine clubs from wineries in California and Oregon which I really enjoyed. A great way to discover that is to plan a trip out west somewhere and just spend a week visiting different wineries and tasting stuff!

That’s a great price for a decent bottle of French. Where did you snag it?

Welcome, me too!

Double RIP. I wonder how hard and/or expensive it would be to get that replaced aftermarket, if possible at all. Do you have an iPad? A simultaneously ghetto and high-tech solution would be to close the laptop lid and Sidecar your display onto it, haha

RIP indeed… but on the bright side, now is the perfect time to snag one of those new 15" MacBook Airs :-)

That would be https://lemmy.world/c/mobiledev@lemmy.world specifically

Woo!!! Olá!!! Portugal represent!!!

For instance, when I look at the list of comments on this thread sorted by both Hot and New, directly on Lemmy.ml versus on my home instance of Lemmy.pt, I don’t see the same set of comments. Not all of the ones from Lemmy.ml appear to have made it over to my instance. Is there some sort of eventual consistency mechanism in the system?

One question I still have is how quickly posts and comments propagate across the Fediverse. How can I be sure the comment I’m writing actually shows up across other instances, and how long after I write it does it take on average to show up other places?
