The obvious outcome of this is an army of juniors making the cut solely because their tasks were to update package.lock.

8·2 days ago- Check for the existence of
Z:/etc/os-releaseand parse it - Check for the
steamDeckenvironment variables set by Steam - Check that the current account’s username is “deck”
- Use assembly to directly perform a Linux syscall that would crash the application on Windows but not on Linux.
It still can’t guarantee that the system is a Steam Deck, but combining all the above is reliable enough to that it would be easier to write an assembly patch for the game than to spoof all of those checks to pass.
That being said: any developer who adds an achievement just for playing on a specific piece of hardware deserves to be kicked in the groin.

He’s been doing these Photoshops since before generative AI.

Name checks out. Humans have the capacity for empathy and understanding. Tom over here can’t even masquerade as a real human being successfully.

9·7 days agoIt could be strategic. Pollute the environment in poor communities that can’t afford to fight it until it drives down property value, then buy the property and use it to generate even more profit.

3·7 days agoHave you considered that management made AI usage a KPI, the feature has a deadline of next sprint, and setting up a sandboxed workspace is still sitting at the end of the backlog as a “nice to have”? /s

When checking ProtonDB, cross-reference the environment variables with those listed on the proton-cachyos README. In my experience, most people are copy-pasting environment variables they read from other people without understanding what they do or even if they do anything at all.

News@lemmy.world•Elon Musk likely broke the law by giving voters $1 million, Wisconsin board says
7·7 days agoIf he has to spend eight hours a day 5 days a week for the next 4 years picking up trash along the side of the road, he’s not going to have time to try to interfere with elections.
That still leaves the weekend and the remaining 16 hours a day. You would think that’s not enough time to do anything extracurricular, but you might be surprised how much sleep can be skipped during a drug-fueled manic episode.

12·8 days agoIt’s the same strategy as the “cancel anytime” gym memberships. It’s technically true, but they make it such a pain in the ass that consumers won’t do it and the company gets to keep their money.

politics @lemmy.world•Judge: Trump sought to ‘manipulate the judicial process’ with his IRS lawsuit and attempted $1.8B fund
4·8 days agoThey say President Trump wants to get rid of checks and balances. It’s not true. Fake news. They say it, they want you to believe it. Believe me, it’s not true. Nobody loves checks and balances more than me. I get the biggest checks—you’ve never seen bigger—all the time, from Jeff, from Vlad, from Pete. They say, “Donald, you’re doing an amazing job.” Those checks, my checks, make HUGE balances. Big checks, big balances, I love all everything big—but not women, don’t want em. Anyone who says President Trump doesn’t want checks or balances is lying. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

No, no. Fuck the Police is ahktually about the libs. When NWA says “the police”, they’re talking about “the police state” created by libruls that silences speech because it can hurt snowflake fee fees. They are “coming straight from the underground” as the suppressed fighters for American values and freedoms. /s

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Man used Grok to make 7K sex images of stepdaughter, then shot himself
2·12 days agoFor shareholders and investors, the worst thing that can happen to them right now is the stock going down and having to take a loss on it. It’s bounded by however much money they put into it.
If investing in 10 shitty companies knowing that 1 would fail manages to be more profitable than investing in 20 companies that don’t degrade the moral fabric of society, there’s a perverse incentive to keep investing in companies creating Groks. Making shareholders financially liable for the debts of their investments would introduce an unpredictable risk that could help change the equation.
