Greetings from Hanoi. China kills Vietnamese and Philippine fisherman and other mariners each year using their paramilitary shadow fleet. China is also a big place and the difference between non-rich in a developed province and non-rich in the rural provinces is extreme. In the last decade, the size of the middle class in places like Shanghai has shrunk dramatically and was arguably never even on par with similar level workers in the USA.

Some of the worst behavior I’ve seen in Hanoi has been from Koreans. That said, drunk Aussies can act quite badly also.

I’ve heard my Vietnamese family and friends speak far more negatively about Koreans and Chinese than Japanese. Koreans committed some war crimes against Vietnamese during the American war and are considered some of the most rude tourists. The Chinese govt’s continued aggression against Vietnam keeps them at the top of the unpopular list though.

What you state is pretty much limited to Korea and China. I have been living in East Asia and SE Asia for the last 22 years and most folks outside of those two countries are fine with Japan and don’t stoke hatred and hard feelings about the past. Yes the Japanese did horrible things in the Philippines but so did the Spanish before the Americans and then the Americans again after world war II. Similar situation in Vietnam, where China invaded and/or occupied Vietnam many times over a 1000 year period, them came the French, then the Japanese during WWI, then the French returned, then the Americans, and then in 1979 the Chinese attacked again.

30 years ago when I was stuck working a crappy 3rd shift job, these were one of the few decent things to eat in the break room. I can still recall the taste but I can’t say I miss it.

let’s not forget that the sole reason that the Southern Baptist Convention exists is because they wanted to keep black folks out of their churches. When the big Baptist association was taking a stand on civil rights, the scum bags that would become the Southern Baptists took their ball and left.

For middle school and high school I was in a very rural part of the southeastern USA in the late 70’s and early 80’s. While the high school had a typing class, it didn’t have available typewriters for general use (there may have been one in the library that could be used during school hours but I am not 100% certain). As such, all book reports/research papers/etc were hand written.

Since this was (and still is) a fairly poor part of the USA, folks were not splashing out a bunch of cash on a typewriter for the kid to use for school work. There may have been reasonably priced typewriters from Brother or similar, they were still not cheap by any stretch.

When I got to university there were typewriters available most of the day in different buildings and some computers with networked printers in the computer labs (this was 1985 to 1990). Since this was one of the premier engineering schools in the nation, it had computer labs that were available to all students before other universities made them available beyond the EE/ICS departments.
