I didn’t say anything of the sort. We all know AI code isn’t original, and for the purposes of this discussion, that’s fine.
My issue is the idea that he’s replicated virtually every last detail of several major closed-source apps simultaneously in under a month using documented specs alone without “cheating” by using their code in some manner. Plain and simple. Prove me wrong, and I’ll issue a mea culpa.
Which brings us full circle to not original code, but I get that’s par for the course with AI. However, I can’t see completing all those apps - with full compatibility - in that time span with nothing but documented specs (especially nowadays when full documentation has long become an afterthought that never becomes reality far too often).
Sorry, not buying that there wasn’t decompiling involved. Dude needs to prove his “work” by releasing every detail of how he accomplished it so others can replicate it before I’ll eat my words. And he needs to do so now - so current tools, hardware, etc can be validated by Joe Public.
I’m with you on your first paragraph - unless we’re doing some pioneering work, we learn it from somewhere.
But the possibility of decompiling means you don’t have to have access to the source just so long as you can access the code is some form - including the generated executable.
May I ask where this is documented? I tried searching, but there’s just too many results to parse, and/or my Google-fu is failing me.
I find it hard to believe near full feature parity could be achieved in under a month for multiple major apps even for an experienced dev using AI. It’s a bit hard to buy.
Clean room implementation would be taking the spec, API calls, etc. & writing the code that implements them from scratch. This is de-compiling existing code & converting it to another programming language. Same source routines in another language.
It’s like taking a book written in Chinese, translating it to English, and calling it your own.
Bullshit.
This makes those things look like they’re pleasurable - if only.
It’s right there in the name: sexophone.
It’s better writing to assume humans will read their biases into things, and head that off by being as explicit as possible.

I’d aim for the sun, personally. Sending them to deep space would just be like throwing garbage out the car window. Give a hoot, didn’t pollute.
The point they were trying to make is the way the headline was written makes it sound unprovoked, as if the man was just an “innocent victim” instead of the truth that he effectively goaded the tiger into doing what comes naturally. It’s as if the editor wants to manipulate popular opinion into demanding the tiger be put down.
Glad they reject it, but I’d like to have seen a stronger smackdown. China’s gotten too powerful already, and is already overtaking America in the role of meddling imperialist.
About 310K of free RAM (about 60K of it chip RAM), so it fits a 512K machine such as an unexpanded A1000 or A500.
An un-expanded A1000 only has 256KB of RAM.
The irony of posting here…
Guess that just adds to the reasons I never really got much past S1 of Discovery. About the only newer Trek show I’ve truly enjoyed in the streaming age was Lower Decks. I’m just not the Trekie I used to be now that I’m an old fart. Probably also in part due to current reality sucking so much that hopeful shows like Trek just don’t work very well for me anymore.
This ain’t doing much for me, TBH. The only draw for me out of this promo is Michelle Yeoh, who’s incredible in pretty much anything she does.
I think the point was that Google is trying to position these as an alternative to laptops running the well-established OSs, but that makes no sense when it can’t do what can be done on those others.
Perfect timing.- I need to take up drinking alcohol so I can be in a stupor for the rest of Hair Commandant’s term in office.
Rogue would be if they cut power to the servers, but the AI still kept going because it had anticipated that and propagated itself elsewhere. They didn’t cut power, so it’s not rogue.
They can say lots of things. I don’t believe everything I’m told. Do you?
Nothing - that’s something I can believe.
Any particular feature? No problem. The entire software suite function-for-function in just a few weeks? Without “cheating?” Yeah, that’s a bit much.
