Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?
211·11 months agoBe careful with a stungun. It requires close range confrontation, and It’s not effective if the assailant is drugged up or heavily drunk and ignores the shocks.
Mace gives good distance, and pepper in the eyes doesn’t care about the stimulants in your blood stream.
Also practice with it. A large number of people carry self defense tools and choke under pressure/fail to use it correctly during situations.

17·11 months agoI got a bread maker for free. I asked my coworkers and THREE different people said they had a bread maker that’s just sitting there, unused as gifts that they don’t want.
Oh, and you don’t want it and want the stupid model? You can still buy it for 3x the price.
During breaks after lunch, my office coworkers all grab small bowls of cereal from the break room and just eat it dry.
I thought it was weird at first but the more I think about it, it shouldn’t be. It’s pretty much sugary snacks.

Went down hill thanks to reality TV.

151·11 months agoI have two points to add to this:
1 - As a liberal, there was nothing more frustrating than having to vote for Kamala, a candidate who was aggressively “pro-cop”, especially as many in the country were protesting for defunding cops. Youre not going to energize most people with an angle like “You want us to vote to stop Trump?”
2 - As a person who is part of the black/immigrant community, the government has a history of ignoring us for decades. It’s not the federal government, but the local government too. Systematic racism has always kept us down. And I hate to say it, Trump got a wall going. Trump has ICE harassing immigrants. These are newsworthy events, even if they’re in the wrong fucking direction. But a Democrat has a history of never wanting to create a ripple as they appeal to all sides.
Damn they’re shooked.

You’ve got to remember that these are just Vaccine-Hesitant Americans. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West… You know, morons.
