We have to pay for the services we use somehow. I’d rather it be cash than the details of my entire life. But the money to operate those services has to come from somewhere

You have to wonder if we aren’t just confirming what the Great Filter is. There may not be any space faring civilizations.
“Women are specifically stating that the direct reason they’re choosing to delay pregnancy is the fall of Roe creating emergency health concerns.”
“I dunno, are you sure you can believe what women say? Did you check the “real” data?”
YEP. Same. It’s always entertaining at work to watch a colleague who’s never heard my accent before hear me speak to a patient from Appalachia or the south
For the record, my grandmother with actual Alzheimer’s continued to ace the MoCA tests long after we had taken her keys and checkbook away. Not all mental deficits are revealed by those tests.
This 100% was the entire goal of the Citizens United ruling.
Yeah I’m absurdly good at not speaking in my native Appalachian accent, opting instead for a sort of “generic midwest.” Unless I’m tawking to ma day-ed-dy, n’ then all bets is awf."
My sister and I cover so well and so often that none of her four children who are literally being raised in Charleston, West Virginia has even a trace of our accent.
The irony that phenylephrine intravenous is actually effective at maintaining blood pressure in people who are trying real hard to die on ya. (Our ICU uses it sometimes.)

Preach. I hate the shit, it makes me feel shaky, but god damn does it work.
There are so many consumers MONOPOLIES now that products that aren’t good or exploit their users can still have a healthy market.
FTFY
I always struggled to imagine what dodos must have looked like irl until I saw these things. They almost look make-believe! Happy to see them reintroduced.
Oh noes! If he pays more in taxes he might be just regular old dirty rich instead of obscenely-no-one-could-ever-contrubute-enough-to-the-world-to-justify-this-level-of-wealth-accumulation rich. I feel so sorry for him.
This was not a good year for me to pick up Kim Stanley Robinson’s “Ministry of the Future” book
But it’s also about cost. Nuclear is far more expensive upfront, more expensive to maintain, and more expensive to decommission. Cheap, agile renewables will be an easier option for the vast majority of the planet
I only have WhatsApp because I have so many non-American friends ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I dragged my mom and sister over to using it, and everyone has been warned that the second I see Meta trying to monetize it, I’m going to whine until they all move to Signal (which has pretty much identical functionality.)
Yeah, it seems pretty apparent that the reason this lawsuit coincides with the GA indictment is because the GA charges are the clearest violation of the 14th Amendment and therefore the strongest argument to make in court. That lawsuit happened so fast that someone clearly had it prepared and was only waiting for the GA indictments. No conspiracy here.
Oh, almost nothing gets pulverized when galaxies collide! Our Milky Way galaxy is currently colliding with a couple of small satellite galaxies. There’s so much empty space between stars that almost none of the stars themselves impact.
It’s more a matter of the gravitational orbits of the stars inside the galaxies changing dramatically. But those changes caused by a galaxy merger take millions of years. Plenty of time for life to adapt.
The biggest danger to life would be the possibility of getting blasted by radiation, if you ended up too close to a supernova or something like that.
All of that as revenge for Saddam Hussein humiliating an insecure cowboy’s daddy, let’s be honest here.
It’s the energy of the quantum fields that permeate space. They’re less “particles” per se, and more just the random jiggles in the quantum fields that aren’t coherent enough to be a full-on normal particle of that field, so the ripple starts and then dies out.
